A Follow-up of Tuberculous Meningitis in Adults

Abstract
This study is based on data from the 63 cases of tuberculous meningitis treated by
the authors during the past seven years. Tuberculous meningitis was found to be more
frequent in women especial1y about the age of twenty The combined mostly triple
chemotherapy using large dosage of INH was continued fort 6 to 18 months or more.
In some cases cortisone or prednisolone was also used The effects of chemotherapy
were excellent in most cases. Early treatment was important, but late treatment also
resulted frequently in good effects. As the complications pulmonary tuberculosis, miliary
tuberculosis and paralysis of the ocular muscles were observed very often. As the
sequelae hearing disturbance, deterioration of the memory and atrophy of tile optic nerve
were observed occasionally.
